About the Artist

Chappy grew up on the coastal shores of Massachusetts and Florida and has settled in the low country of South Carolina.  After retiring she started painting and began her journey into plein air painting.  This appealed to her enjoyment of being out in the fresh air surrounded by the beauty and peacefulness of the landscape.  "Plein air painting is certainly challenging as I try to capture the emotion I feel as I paint my surroundings."  Chappy began her painting education by taking workshops with Rhode Island painter Jonathan McPhillips, a marine painter of note.  After moving to South Carolina, she has continued to take workshops with Chris Groves and other plein air painters.  "One of the reasons I moved to this area is the access to the many accomplished painters offering workshops in addition to new friends to paint with and the stunning scenery."  A slightly new direction for her is working with palette knife and cold wax and that has included working with Cynthia Knott and Karen Weihs.
